Paexo Shoulder Exoskeleton at Baltic Yachts

Baltic Yachts based in Jakobstad, Finland is one of the leading shipyards for large custom-made yachts. The design, performance and technical innovations are especially tailored to the wishes of customers. The company with around 280 employees specialises in building high-performance carbon fibre yachts. That makes the sailing and motor yachts from Baltic Yachts especially lightweight, sturdy and fast.

“We expect that using the Paexo Shoulder will improve our productivity and workplace ergonomics. Initial results show that the employees are extremely happy with the exoskeleton, because relief is immediate and it is very intuitive to use.”

Kenneth Holmgård, Head of HR at Baltic Yachts

Overhead work in yacht building

A number of ergonomically challenging tasks have to be performed during yacht building, for example laminating the carbon fibres above head and shoulder height. This strenuous work puts a particular strain on the muscles and joints in the arms and shoulders of employees. That is why Baltic Yachts tested the Paexo Shoulder exoskeleton with six production employees. The Paexo Shoulder supported the employees, for example when laminating the hull and setting up the oven to harden the carbon fibres, which is built for each hull for this purpose.
